“CAFE TREFFERS, AMSTERDAM”
2010 – 50 x 60
Who say’s interior paintings are boaring? Well, for sure Natalia proofs with this one, they aren’t!
Pictured here is a spectacular golden interior of CafĂ© Treffers, which is one of the few remaining so-called ‘brown pubs’ in Amsterdam. ‘Treffers’ in Dutch means people meating each other.
The pub is located at the corner of the ‘Willem de Zwijger’ and Admiraal de Ruyter street’ in the West part of the city. It is painted just after a big rain fall, on a hot summer day. Natalia used to live nearby the pub, which became one of her favorites to visit for a chat and a drink with the locals.
The reflection of the hot sunlight on the wet streets outside comes in from the open door and is seen on the wooden wet floor of the pub, The owner of the pub, is sitting in his particular manner at the middle of the bar. A beautiful interior in red and blue reflects the hot and moistured atmosphere.
